Await The Dawn is likely to start a deserved favourite on the back of his eye-catching victory in the Group 3 Huxley at Chester last month. Given he’s won on soft going, there’s no doubting he’s the one to beat, but PASSION FOR GOLD looks better value. A high-class two-year-old, he won a Group 1 race on testing ground in France in 2009, but wasn’t …moreseen at the track again until last month. A winner of a Listed event at Goodwood when stepped up to today’s trip, we probably haven’t seen the best of him yet and he’s preferred to Calvados Blues and Campanologist, who also represent Godolphin. Laaheb should handle any cut and has claims on his best form, while Drunken Sailor won in Listed company at Newbury last month. Harris Tweed is at his best on soft ground and makes more appeal than Gordon Richards’ Stakes winner Kings Gambit.

You can open up an account now and get 35 free!!You can open up an account now and get 35 free!!The demands of Epsom and in particular The Derby mean a horse has to be at its absolute peak to land the great race so the recent setback, however minor, suffered by Carlton House is obviously a major concern. The Dante winner looked the likely Derby winner when comfortably accounting for SEVILLE at York but there are reasons for suggesting the run…morener-up can reverse the form. The Dante was run at a crawl and the time was very slow. Neither of the first two would have been suited by a sprint finish given their breeding but Aidan O’Brien’s colt, by Galileo out of a 1m4f Group 3 winner, was never likely to win a dash for the line. He’ll get a much stiffer test of stamina here and coupled with The Queen’s colt’s injury scare is taken to reverse the form and take this. Pour Moi has come in for massive support in recent weeks following his Group 2 victory at Saint-Cloud where Vadamar was third. Andre Fabre’s colt is another who will be ideally suited by a strong gallop and his trainer has issued an unusually upbeat verdict on the son of Montjeu. Recital is also by that sire and won the Derrinstown Stud Stakes at Leopardstown but he didn’t please everyone with his action that day and again it wasn’t a fast time. Native Khan doesn’t appear certain to get the trip on breeding but like many Derby winners previously he was going on strongly at the finish of the 2000 Guineas so it would be foolish to write him off on pedigree alone and Johnny Murtagh is the ideal partner. Godolphin’s Ocean War hasn’t proved himself anywhere near this level and is another with suspect breeding for the trip though he’s on the upgrade and could make his presence felt under Frankie.
